Climate Strategy at CSBSJU
I think that it was a great idea to have Alex, Judy and Jake in class to discuss the variety of things that are being done on the two campuses related to sustainability. I found these class periods particularly interesting because I was not familiar with many things that the schools have been doing other than trying to decrease the amount of food waste through getting rid of trays and implementing meatless Mondays to try to promote sustainability in not making meat the main focus of our meals each and every day. Alex had a really good presentation about the different things that have been done with regard to sustainability this year and I was really surprised to hear about all of the different ways that our school is attempting to become more sustainable. I think that it is really great that we are able to track the campus emissions and work towards lowering that number in the years to come. Another area that needs improvement that I was excited to hear about was the solar farm and the plans for expanding and making our campus more capable of utilizing this energy source. However, this type of energy is bitter sweet in a way because it is much better than the current sources, but at the same time we are giving up land that could be used for something else in order to put a large solar farm that is not particularly attractive.
